Customer emails

Choose which emails Bias sends your customers on your behalf.

Each email has a switch in Settings → Customer emails, and all of them start on. Hover over an email to preview it.

Invoices

  • Invoices: the invoice and a link to pay it. This sets whether Send to customer starts checked when you finalize an invoice. Invoices you send yourself, and invoices for subscriptions billed by emailed invoice, are always emailed. See email delivery.
  • Receipts: a receipt when a payment pays an invoice. Marking an invoice paid yourself sends none.
  • Credit notes: an email when you credit an open invoice.
  • Reminders: reminders about unpaid invoices on a schedule you set. See payment reminders.

Subscriptions

  • Trial ending: a reminder before a free trial converts to paid.
  • Upcoming renewals: a reminder 30 days before each renewal of a plan billed less often than monthly.
  • Yearly reminders: a yearly reminder, for plans billed monthly or more often, of what the customer pays and how to cancel. “Some US states require these reminders. Turn one off only if you send it yourself.”
  • Failed renewals: a request to update the payment method when a renewal charge fails. See failed payments.
  • ACH debit amount changes: 10 days’ notice before a renewal debits a bank account a different amount than the last invoice. “US federal law (Regulation E) requires this notice.”

For when each reminder goes out and what it says, see emails to customers.

US bank payments

  • Debit authorizations: a copy of the recurring debit authorization, sent when a customer authorizes debits from their bank account. “US federal law (Regulation E) requires this notice.”

Note

If you turn off Yearly reminders, ACH debit amount changes or Debit authorizations, you’re responsible for sending those notices yourself.

Emails without a switch

Bias always sends:

  • The sign-in code for the billing portal when a customer signs in by email.
  • Invoices you send with Send or Send to customer.
